About Englewood Arts District

What is the Englewood Arts District? Join us every Third Friday from 6 to 9 for an art walk celebration in the Englewood Arts District in Independence, MO, just 15 minutes from the KC center. Artists are invited to be a part of the art walk by setting up a pop up art tent.In October of 2024, the Englewood Arts District successfully petitioned the City of Independence to establish the Englewood Arts Overlay District (EAOD), updating zoning to support a vibrant, mixed-use creative community. This explicitly promotes art-related businesses, artist studios, live/work units, galleries, small venues, outdoor events, and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. Their goal is to create “robust and sustainable mixed-income neighborhoods that are safe, walkable, and incorporate art into the infrastructure,” integrating creative enterprises with residential life while maintaining neighborhood character. Across the street is Englewood Arts, which opened in 2022, a 30,000 sq ft Arts Center in a former medical building, granting studios, a glass-blowing lab, neon workshop, performance space, and gallery.
