Gently guided by a local writer with decades of experience, just show up. You can do this. This class is four 90-minute sessions. In person and live-streamed. The class repeats for a total of 12 weeks. $40. Bring paper, pen, and a heartbeat. (Upon completion, you may submit your story to the “Lake Moon Literary Journal” and participate in a book signing event at a later date.) Itinerary Session 1: Intro – How to get started. Where and when to do it. What to write about. Basic exercises, demo, and examples. Homework writing is assigned. Session 2: Review excerpts of homework. Feedback, critique, and how to edit. Guest speaker, local published author. Session 3: Review excerpts of edited story. Feedback and critique. How to get it finished. Advanced editing. Session 4: Read and polish your story. Prepare for publishing. Guest speaker: published author and editor. Next steps as a writer. With near four decades of writing and publishing experience, Rebecca Tombaugh is an award-winning investigative reporter, writer, former managing editor of The Kansan and owner/publisher of The Johnson County Business Ledger magazine. She has also published numerous short stories, poems, and four books, and served as president of the Kansas City Press Association. Twice, she gained national attention when she was taken to court for refusing to turn over sources and documents to the Wyandotte County government and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
